Recently one of our doctor visited Pakistan and during his visit, we came to know that a lot of children are there who are suffering from congenital heart disease. As the paediatric cardiac surgery is not very well developed in Pakistan, many poor patients are deprived of health care. The rotary group in Pakistan contacted us to help these small children and sent medical reports of few to us. After discussing case to case by our hospital cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and cardiac anaesthesiologists, we invited two children from the list of cases sent to us.

A six-month old girl child from Mansa, Kamaldeep Kaur, has become probably the youngest recepient of pacemaker implantation in the region. Kamaldeep was admitted in the Pediatric Ward of DMCH under the care of Associate Professor Dr. Puneet Pooni. Her medical examination revealed that she was suffering from a congenitally slow heart which resulted in her suffering from seizures. She was then transferred to Hero DMC Heart Institute (HDHI) under the care of Senior Cardiology Consultant Dr. Bishav Mohan who recommended pacemaker implantation for the child.

The patient who hails from Sirsa and used to play volleyball at the district level had no history of any disease. Keshav’s father Pramod Kumar works as a helper at Balbir Silk Store in Model Town and draws a salary of about Rs 5000. On his meager income, he couldn’t afford his son’s treatment. But his employers had got Pramod Kumar and his family duly registered under the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Act, which came as a godsend for him. By virtue of this registration, the beneficiaries are eligible for free of cost treatment at high-end hospitals, in case the same is not available at ESI Hospital. Pramod Kumar got Keshav checked at ESI Hospital which further referred him to Hero DMC Heart Institute (HDHI).
